World-famous actor, producer, and musician Johnny Depp has made his first foray into the world of cryptocurrency by signing a content production deal with TaTaTu, a cryptocurrency-centric social entertainment platform founded by Hollywood producer Andrea Iervolino.
TaTaTu is a platform that lets viewers earn tokens for their time and data by enjoying films, music, and games. By combining a video on demand platform with a social network that rewards its users, TaTaTu is hoping to build an ecosystem where the viewers take part in shaping the content added to the platform while also allowing the users to control how much (or how little) of their data is supplied to advertisers.
To date, TaTaTu is the third largest ICO ever, surpassed only by Telegram and EOS. Following its massively successful private sale in the summer in which it raised $575 million in just a few weeks — including investments from some BlockTower Capital and Prince Felix of Luxembourg — the start-up has begun ramping up recruitment of talent, the most notable of which is Johnny Depp.
Iervolino said in a statement :
Johnny has the ability to conceptualize material in a way that few can, and is unburdened of conventional industry formulas that dictate the projects that get made, traditionally.
The arrangement sees Depp and Iervolino working together through their respective media companies Infinitum Nihil Productions and AMBI Media Group. The two had previously been working together on Waiting for the Barbarians , the cinematic adaptation of the award-winning novel by J. M. Coetzee first published in 1980 — due to start production this month.
In reference to TaTaTu, Depp said:
In this era of democratized entertainment, I admire the imaginative ethos of Andrea and look forward to collaborating together in a liberating, progressive manner that will befit the principals of our respective entities.
TaTaTu has already begun creating film and video content, with the social entertainment platform’s first major move in the space being Lamborghini , a biopic that details the rivalry between Ferruccio Lamborghini, portrayed by Antonio Banderas, and co-star Alec Baldwin’s Enzo Ferrari.
Like most other cryptocurrencies, TTU has seen a significant drop in value in the past several months — falling drastically from its all-time high of over $0.87 in mid-August down to $0.134 today. It is still up more than 30 percent up since its ICO price of 10 cents.
Shortly after the announcement, TTU saw a 20 percent spike, climbing from just over $0.11 to today’s price. The coin is currently trading on both the HitBTC and Liquid exchanges .
