How & Why The first Blockchain Was Built?
Blockchain has been defined as a “ distributed, public ledger ” and is the record-keeping technology behind the Bitcoin network . Quisquater began working on moving media from analog to digital systems. This was for the Philips Research Lab in Belgium, early on in his career. He eventually produced a viable digital signature for local notaries, creating the blockchain concept.
When the lab closed down because of financial pressures, he moved on to a position at the É cole Polytechnique de Louvai n. With the benefit of a grant, he began steering the Times project. This project aimed to introduce standards at the International Organi s ation for Standardi s ation. I nternet Engineering Task Force levels about secure digital time, further included .

Together with close friend Stuart Haber, he was able to gain groundbreaking insights. Although, they could achieve this by, hash functions for time stamping . Quisquater said the pair utilized blocks c haining with secure hash functions. Moreover, a secure pseudo-random generator was also used in their first blockchain. He further explained that the first blockchain, by Haber, used the NY Times to publish hash values. The system did not involve mining. Five papers emerging from the project are there in the Bitcoin white paper.
The pioneers of Blockchain
Quisquater is a renowned cryptographer and currently a Professor of Cryptography and Multimedia Security in the Department of Electricity at Louvain. In addition to that, h e holds many patents i n cryptography and smart cards. Furthermore, he is an in-demand speaker and advisor to fintech startups. Along with Haber, Satoshi Nakamoto, W. Scott Stornetta, and Hal Finney, he is one of the pioneers of blockchain technology .
