South Africa Moves to Classify Crypto Assets as Financial Product 
In a new notice issued by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority, South Africa announced it will now recognise crypto assets as financial products under the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act of 2022. 
Given the notice , digital assets will now be under the control of the different regulators in the Southern African country. The notice went ahead to define a crypto asset as a “digital representation of value” that is not issued by a central bank but one that can be traded, stored, and transferred electronically “for the purpose of payment, investment, and other forms of utility.”
The announcement is expected to take effect immediately and comes at a time when other countries around the world are looking to regulate digital currencies more stringently following the collapse of major crypto firms and the latest crypto bear market.
The Africa Blockchain Developer’s Call Series to Hold a Three-Month Blockchain Programme in Tanzania
The Africa Blockchain Developer’s Call Series (ABDCS) is set to host a three-month Blockchain Bootcamp and Hackathon in Tanzania beginning on October 31, 2022. 
ABDC Series is a Pan-African initiative that seeks to train and certify 5,000 blockchain professionals and 1,000 blockchain developers from different universities. The goal of the initiative is to equip the developers with the necessary support and encouragement and offer them various opportunities for employment or self-sustenance in the blockchain space after training and certification. 
The programme which has been set up by ABDCS is being organized by Africa BIoT Labs in partnership with Sankore 2.0 and ICORB alongside six host universities in Tanzania, namely State University of Zanzibar (SUZA), Zanzibar University, Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT), Institute of Financial Management (IFM), College of Business Education (CBE), University of Dar es Salaam (UD), and University of Dodoma (UDom).
Unfortunately, despite the advancements in the African blockchain ecosystem, there is a lack of qualified developers in Africa who are ready for the employment opportunities available in blockchain projects , thus missing out on opportunities. This is the gap that the ABDC Series wants to fill. The program is therefore being carried out to train African developers for the purpose of bringing a new talent breed and grooming them to fit the required standards. 
The programme will culminate in a hackathon and pitch series that will see interested startups pitch their business ideas to both local and international audiences for an opportunity to win grants and prizes.
