Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer, David Schwartz, has made a notable return to XRPL infrastructure, operating independently rather than as a Ripple executive. In a personal update on Aug. 2, Schwartz announced that he built and launched a custom server specifically designed to support the XRP ($2.31) Ledger (XRPL) network. While he continues his role at Ripple, this server operates without any official connection to the company.
High-Performance Server Setup
Schwartz revealed impressive server specifications. The machine runs on an AMD 9950X processor with 256 GB of RAM and multiple terabytes of SSD and NVMe storage. It also features a 10 Gbps unmetered link, all located within a New York data center. Operating on Ubuntu, the server is already fully synced with XRPL, ready to provide stable connectivity.
Importantly, Schwartz clarified that this initiative is not an experimental project. Instead, he intends to maintain a high-uptime, production-level server capable of supporting validators, infrastructure nodes, and XRPL-based applications. He reserved several slots on the server for “important” nodes, potentially UNL validators or priority services. Moreover, he plans to allocate additional capacity to the public when available, ensuring broader network support.
Strengthening Decentralization and Connectivity
Although Schwartz has not directly managed XRPL infrastructure in years, he emphasized that the current network environment makes decentralized hubs like this server more valuable than ever. While cautioning against reliance on a single node for critical services, he stated that the data collected from this setup could enhance the network’s understanding of traffic patterns across varying workloads.

The server is currently online, contributing to the XRPL ecosystem by improving connectivity. However, Schwartz noted that it requires several weeks of “battle hardening” before it can handle significant workloads. Despite this, the initiative already demonstrates his commitment to supporting decentralization and the technical resilience of XRPL infrastructure.
