Lucie, the pseudonymous marketing lead of the Shiba Inu (SHIB ($0.00)) team, has delivered a blunt message to developers who exploit SHIB burns for their own benefit. She openly criticized teams that use SHIB burns as a promotional tactic for unrelated tokens. Lucie says this trend of burning SHIB to boost other projects is “the biggest crypto nonsense” she has ever witnessed.
Lucie did not merely criticize—she also suggested responsible alternatives. She recommended that if a third-party team truly wants to support its own project, it should either burn its tokens directly or purchase more tokens. More importantly, she emphasized the value of consistency, stating that token burn must occur daily for any meaningful effect. “Without proper, persistent daily burns, it’s all nonsense,” she asserted.
Past SHIB Burns Spark Debate
In previous months, substantial SHIB burns have occurred. For example, in March 2025, the CENT team burned 2 billion SHIB in total. Similarly, in November 2024, SquidGrow’s anonymous leader, @Shibtoshi_SG, burned several billion SHIB tokens. Although these acts removed large volumes, Lucie still questioned their intent and sustainability.

To strengthen her argument, Lucie consulted ChatGPT, asking whether her stance was biased. The AI chatbot supported her view, calling unrelated token burns “just a gimmick and often a trap.” ChatGPT further explained that legitimate burns should come from a project’s supply or revenue and include transparent, automated systems or community-driven methods.
Daily Burns Continue, But Impact Remains Modest
Meanwhile, Shibburn data shows that the SHIB community collectively removed 28,793,847 SHIB from circulation within 24 hours. However, the impact was minimal, with the burn rate increasing by just 1.76%. This reinforces Lucie’s point: sporadic or publicity-driven burns do little to influence long-term supply reduction.

Lucie’s criticism serves as a wake-up call to projects using SHIB for self-promotion. She advocates for direct and transparent burn strategies rooted in real value.
The SHIB team continues to urge consistency and sincerity over hype, calling on the broader crypto community to rethink how token burns are executed and marketed.
